Gas Boiler Replacement for Patterson-Kelley boilers

Most replacement calls start with an older atmospheric or mid-efficiency boiler that has failed, or a wall-hung condensing boiler from the 2000s that is becoming unreliable. A modern condensing boiler running at 95% AFUE and modulating to low fire will usually cut gas use, but only if the system is set up to condense: supply temperatures, emitter sizing and controls all matter.

Replacement is where venting, condensate and gas-supply issues surface. An old boiler vented into a masonry chimney needs a new sealed vent route; a condensing boiler needs a condensate drain; a higher-input boiler may need a larger gas line. The estimate on this site lists these as price factors so there are no surprises.

Frequently asked questions

When should I replace rather than repair?

Repeated failures, a leaking heat exchanger, unavailable parts, or a boiler over roughly 20 years old usually favour replacement. A single clear fault on a younger boiler favours repair.

Can a new boiler use my old chimney?

Condensing boilers cannot vent into an unlined masonry chimney. They need dedicated sealed venting, which is one of the main scope items in a replacement.

Will a new boiler lower my gas bill?

A condensing boiler that actually condenses usually uses less gas than an atmospheric boiler, but the saving depends on your system and habits. Boilers.ca does not publish savings claims.
