About the SENSEI RX Series

The SENSEI RX Series is Rinnai's flagship condensing tankless water heater line: four models from RX130iN to RX199iN, each rated 0.97 UEF at the two smaller sizes and 0.98 UEF at the two larger, with input ranges of 15,000 to 130,000 / 160,000 / 180,000 / 199,000 BTU/h per the official product pages. Every model is a DHW appliance — there is no hydronic heating circuit — and each can be installed indoors or outdoors using natural gas or liquid propane via Rinnai's Adaptive Gas Valve Technology, which needs no conversion kit.

The line prints maximum domestic hot water flow rates of 7.1 GPM (RX130iN), 9.0 (RX160iN), 10.0 (RX180iN) and 11.1 (RX199iN), in a shared 18.5 W x 30.11 H x 11.4 D in cabinet weighing 54–55 lb, with 3/4" hot and cold water connections, a 3/4" gas connection and a 1/2" NPT condensate drain. All four models are recirculation-capable, Wi-Fi capable, ENERGY STAR rated and SCAQMD Ultra Low NOx approved.

As a condensing line the SENSEI RX produces acidic condensate that must be managed per the installation manual, and it is sized on peak hot-water demand rather than a building heat-loss calculation. Where a home needs space heating too, a boiler or combi handles that load; the SENSEI RX covers domestic hot water only.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the Rinnai SENSEI RX a boiler?

No. The SENSEI RX is a condensing tankless water heater for domestic hot water only. Space heating needs a boiler or a combi; Rinnai's boiler lines are the I-SERIES+ and the legacy i-, M- and Q-Series.

What flow rates do the SENSEI RX models publish?

Maximum domestic hot water flow is printed at 7.1 GPM for the RX130iN, 9.0 GPM for the RX160iN, 10.0 GPM for the RX180iN and 11.1 GPM for the RX199iN, per the official product pages.

Does the SENSEI RX need a propane conversion kit?

No. Rinnai's pages state the Adaptive Gas Valve Technology adjusts to natural gas or liquid propane without a conversion kit; gas connection and commissioning remain licensed gas-fitting work.
