Comparison

Dunkirk Royal CH-120 vs CH-150

Verdict in brief

The Royal CH-150 is the fourth rung of the Royal CH residential ladder: input rises from 120 to 150 MBH and heating capacity from 110 to 139 MBH (net AHRI water 121 MBH against 96 MBH), still at 95.2% AFUE in the same wall-hung cabinet. Its minimum fire steps up from 12 to 15 MBH — a modest low-fire cost for 29 MBH of extra ceiling.

What actually separates them

Both are wall-hung, heating-only Royal CH residential models sharing the stainless steel water-tube platform at 95.2% AFUE with up to 10:1 turndown, the same cabinet and the same 3/4" NPT CH and gas connections.

The CH-120 prints 12-120 MBH input, 110 MBH heating capacity and a 96 MBH net AHRI water rating; the CH-150 prints 15-150 MBH input, 139 MBH heating capacity and a 121 MBH net AHRI rating — figures from the official brochure table that a heat-loss calculation compares directly.

The CH-150's 15 MBH minimum fire against the CH-120's 12 MBH means the larger boiler sits on a slightly higher floor in shoulder seasons; otherwise the two are identical to install. Homes whose load stays under the CH-120's 110 MBH heating capacity give up little by staying smaller.

Frequently asked questions

Is the CH-150 worth it over the CH-120?

Only when the heat-loss calculation needs more than 110 MBH of heating capacity on a design day — both fire down to the low teens of MBH, so extra ceiling without a matching load just raises the minimum fire.

Do the two models install the same?

Yes — same 28.23 x 17.4 x 16.93 in cabinet, same venting kit (3" flue with 2" reducer, 3-in-1 adjustable connector) and same connection sizes.

Are these the largest Royal CH sizes?

No — the CH-150 sits below the CH-180, and Dunkirk documents larger commercial CH models separately.

Not sure which one fits your home?

A consultation includes a heat-loss review so the size is right the first time.
