Comparison

HTP EFTU-85WBN vs EFTU-110WBN

Verdict in brief

The EFTU-85WBN and EFTU-110WBN are the two smallest Elite Fire Tube Ultra heating-only boilers and share the identical 110 lb shipping package, the 1.4 gal water content and the same venting. The 85 is the line's only 96% DOE AFUE model (85 MBH ceiling); the 110 fires to 110 MBH at 95% DOE AFUE with a net AHRI water rating of 88 MBH against 69 MBH.

What actually separates them

Both are wall-hung heating-only models of the Elite Fire Tube Ultra line with the SA-240-S43932 vertical fire-tube heat exchanger, a 10:1 turndown, ECM pump and AristonThermo GALEVO2 control. Shipping weight is 110 lb on both (107 lb approximate full weight) with 1.4 gal of boiler water content, in the 19.75 x 38.25 x 17 in cabinet.

The EFTU-85WBN fires 8,500–85,000 BTU/hr and prints 96% DOE AFUE — the best figure in the EFTU table — with 79 MBH DOE heating capacity and a 69 MBH net AHRI water rating. The EFTU-110WBN fires 11,000–110,000 BTU/hr at 95% DOE AFUE, with 101 MBH DOE heating capacity and 88 MBH net AHRI.

Venting is common: exhaust 2" (6–100 ft) or 3" (6–150 ft), intake 2" (0–100 ft) or 3" (0–150 ft) in PVC, CPVC, polypropylene or stainless steel; the 3" diameter is mandatory only on the 199 sizes. The choice between the two is the heat-loss calculation against the 85's efficiency edge.

Frequently asked questions

Which EFTU boiler-only model is the most efficient?

The EFTU-85WBN prints 96% DOE AFUE against 95% for the EFTU-110WBN — it is the only EFTU model at 96% in the official table.

Are the two models the same weight?

Yes — the official table prints 110 lb shipping weight and 107 lb approximate full weight for both, with 1.4 gal water content each.

When does the 110 make more sense than the 85?

When the heat-loss calculation needs more than the 85's 79 MBH DOE heating capacity on a design day; the 110 lifts the ceiling to 101 MBH at one point of printed AFUE.
