What actually separates them

The 120 and 140 sizes sit in the same compact UFT wall group — 100 lb each in the 17.5 x 34 x 15.4 in cabinet with identical floor-sibling weights (130 lb for UFT-120F and UFT-140F), identical 2"-to-50 ft / 3"-to-100 ft venting and identical 1-1/4" NPT connections.

Input runs 12,000–120,000 BTU/hr on the 120 and 14,000–140,000 BTU/hr on the 140, lifting heating capacity from 114 to 133 MBH. The printed DOE AFUE falls from 95.6% (the group's best) to 95.0% (the UFT line's lowest) at the 140 size.

Below the 120's ceiling the two behave nearly identically in day-to-day operation, so the 140 is justified only by a design-day heat loss that the 114 MBH heating capacity cannot carry. Everything else — warranty, pressures, venting, gas supply — is common to both records.

No — both are the compact 100 lb wall cabinet at 17.5 x 34 x 15.4 in. The difference is entirely in the firing range.

Why does the larger UFT-140W print a lower AFUE?

The official model table prints 95.0% DOE AFUE for the 140 against 95.6% for the 120 — a per-model published figure, not a trend Boilers.ca generalizes.
