Comparison

Utica PEG225EID vs PEG262EID

Verdict in brief

The PEG225EID and PEG262EID are adjacent sizes in the current PEG-E gas-fired cast-iron STEAM line — both non-condensing atmospheric boilers with a rear-mounted integral draft hood, probe-type LWCO and pressure controls, rated at 83% and 83.2% AFUE. The PEG262EID fires 262 MBH against 225 MBH, printing 164 MBH of net steam (141) over 685 sq ft (587), with 8 cast-iron sections against 7; both use (2) 2" piping risers, both use a 7" vent pipe and a shipping weight of 659 lb against 584 lb.

What actually separates them

Both models are PEG-E gas-fired cast-iron steam boilers — non-condensing, atmospheric chimney venting through a rear-mounted integral draft hood and vent damper, with cast-iron push nipples, stainless steel burners, and a probe-type low water cut-off with pressure high-limit control, pressure gauge and gauge glass. Neither modulates: input is fixed.

The sell-sheet ratings table prints 225 MBH input, 188 MBH heating capacity, 141 MBH net steam over 587 sq ft and 83% AFUE on the PEG225EID, against 262 MBH, 219 MBH, 164 MBH over 685 sq ft and 83.2% on the PEG262EID. Net steam ratings use a piping and pickup allowance of 1.333.

The physical step changes the near-boiler piping: both use (2) 2" piping risers, both use a 7" vent pipe, both take ¾" NPT gas, and cabinet dimensions move from 23⅞ × 35⅞ × 30⅜ in to 27⅛ × 35⅞ × 30⅜ in with shipping weight from 584 to 659 lb. Steam sizing starts from the connected radiation load, so the heat-loss and radiation survey decides between the two — installation belongs with a licensed contractor.

Frequently asked questions

What does the PEG262EID add over the PEG225EID?

262 MBH input against 225 MBH, 164 MBH net steam over 685 sq ft against 141 MBH over 587 sq ft, and 8 sections against 7, per the official PEG-E sell sheet.

How do the piping risers differ?

PEG225EID: (2) 2"; PEG262EID: (2) 2", per the IOM near-boiler piping figures. The product page describes single and dual piping riser options depending on boiler size.

Are both boilers condensing?

No — every PEG-E is a non-condensing cast-iron steam boiler with atmospheric chimney venting, an integral draft hood and a vent damper.
