The sizing step also checks the demand side. If the emitters were chosen for high supply temperatures and the boiler is a condensing model, the size only works when emitter output at design conditions is acknowledged. Why is oversizing such a problem for condensing boilers?
An oversized boiler meets the load quickly, shuts off and repeats, which wears parts and keeps the unit outside the condensing range where it operates as designed. Matching size to load matters more for condensing equipment than for old cast-iron boilers.
Can't I just buy the biggest boiler so I'm safe?
No. Capacity beyond the load makes short cycling worse, and every boiler also has a minimum firing rate. Sizing selects the range that fits the building, not the largest available input.
What if my heat loss changes later, for example after insulation work?
Sizing is only as current as the load figure behind it. If the envelope changes materially, an updated heat-loss assessment should come before any new sizing decision.
