About the Pennant

The Pennant is the staged, non-condensing workhorse of Laars' commercial range: fan-assisted modular boilers and volume water heaters 'available in 7 sizes, from 500 to 2000 MBH' (per the product page), in hydronic (PNCH) and volume water heater (PNCV) model codes such as the PNCH2000 and PNCV2000 seen in the brochure. The line runs on natural or LP gas and delivers AHRI-certified thermal efficiency of 85%, with stage firing up to 4:1.

Pennant units combine a 10-tube heat exchanger with finned copper or cupronickel tubing and glass-lined cast-iron or bronze headers, and every current model ships with the Laars Linc control system per the product page. Because the boilers are non-condensing, Laars offers an optional factory low-temperature configuration for low-temperature systems: the brochure describes it as preventing the damaging condensing operation caused by cold return water, with heat-exchanger condensation prevented in that mode.

Laars markets the Pennant for hydronic and hot water commercial applications and separately lists a Pennant pool-heater version (PNCP) under pool products. Being non-condensing and staged, the Pennant family is distinct from the condensing, modulating MagnaTherm and NeoTherm lines documented elsewhere on Boilers.ca.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Pennant available in Canada?

The researched Pennant page prints no Canada restriction, and the Pennant brochure's back cover lists Laars' Canadian office: 9 Brigden Gate, Halton Hills, Ontario, Canada L7G 0A3. Pennant models run on natural or LP gas. Confirm current availability and the low-temperature option with Laars Canada or an authorized Canadian distributor.

Is the Pennant a condensing boiler?

No. The Pennant is a non-condensing, staged-firing boiler line (up to 4:1, 85% thermal efficiency), so it vents as a Category I or III appliance rather than a plastic-vented condensing unit. For low-temperature systems Laars offers an optional factory low-temperature configuration that prevents damaging condensing operation caused by cold return water.
