Triangle Tube Challenger

The Challenger was Triangle Tube's earlier condensing boiler family — a condensing design despite the common assumption otherwise — sold as solos (submittals CC85, CC105, CC125, CC150) for use with an indirect tank and as 'Two in One' combis (CC85, CC105, CC125). Its pages were archived in 2019 and gone from the site years before the November 3, 2025 cessation, so only archived literature documents it.

About the Challenger

The Challenger Solo used what the archived page calls a unique insert cast heat exchanger — light-weight aluminum heat transfer with copper waterways — in a condensing design: Triangle Tube's own literature states that 'the condensing heat exchanger in the Challenger converts the latent heat in flue gas into usable energy.' The 2019 comparison table rated the solo models at 94% AFUE (CC85 and CC105), 95% (CC125) and 92.3% (CC150), with ASME-stamped heat exchangers, SCAQMD low-NOx certification and twin-pipe or concentric venting. Domestic hot water came from an indirect tank such as the Smart line, since the solos are heating-only.

The Challenger Combi ('Two in One') produced domestic hot water directly in its heat exchanger so the boiler could condense in DHW mode, with a published trio of sizes CC85/CC105/CC125 spanning 84 to 124 MBH. Challenger pages 404 on the live site — the Wayback captures date to 2019 — and the series sat in the site's 'Discontinued Product Literature' area, so the Challenger long predates the November 3, 2025 cessation. Challenger models are not named in the February 2025 recall.

Was the Challenger a condensing boiler?

Yes. Triangle Tube's Challenger literature states the condensing heat exchanger converts latent heat in the flue gas into usable energy, and the product pages advertise condensing efficiency in both space-heating and DHW modes on the combi. The 'non-condensing' label sometimes attached to the Challenger is not supported by the official literature.

What sizes did the Challenger come in?

The solo line was submittalled as CC85, CC105, CC125 and CC150, rated 84, 106, 125 and 145 MBH maximum input on the 2019 comparison table. The combi line was CC85, CC105 and CC125 — the 2013 combi literature describes three sizes spanning 84 to 124 MBH, with a CC125H also named in one official manual title.

Why is the Challenger documented if the pages are gone?

Challenger pages 404 on the live triangletube.com site and exist only through Wayback captures from 2019, but large numbers of units remain installed. Boilers.ca documents the series from the archived official pages and official manuals so owners and technicians can still identify models, ratings and manuals.
