What actually separates them

The 29-106 covers 28.5–106 MBH input and 26.3–94.3 MBH output, while the 15-96 covers 15–96 MBH input and 14.5–85.9 MBH output. The extra headroom is modest, but the 29-106's minimum fire is nearly double the 15-96's, which matters in a low-load home where the boiler spends most of its time at part load.

Efficiency moves the other way: IBC rates the 15-96 at 96% AFUE and the 29-106 at 94%. DHW flow rises slightly to 3.3 USgpm on the 29-106 from 3.0 USgpm, both with 0.5 USgpm activation, and the 29-106's minimum boiler flow steps up to 3 USgpm from 2.

The 29-106 is lighter at 85 lb (39 kg) against the 15-96's 105 lb (48 kg), and its output-kW row carries the DC-page discrepancy: the DC table prints 8.9–32.3 kW while the HC table prints 7.7–27.6 kW for the same range. Manuals differ too: 120-183-A-R9 for the 29-106, 120-183-A-R11 for the 15-96.
