What actually separates them

Both models are part of the Model NTH 080-285 line documented in I&O Document 1252K, and the parts list's size columns place them next to each other at 80 and 105. They share the floor-standing condensing design, the menu-driven operator interface, the factory 195°F high-limit sensing and the same Appendix B code tables.

Codes on both are numeric Holds or Lockouts — internal faults, the safety chain (63), high-limit, delta-T, stack and sensor entries — read from Appendix B of Document 1252K or Appendix 1 of the service manual, Document 1291. Neither model produces its own domestic hot water; the NTV water heaters documented alongside the NTH in Document 1291 handle water-heating roles.
