Lochinvar Copper-Fin Fan Assisted CBN2067 vs Copper-Fin II CHN2072

Verdict in brief

The CBN2067 and CHN2072 are the two largest Copper-Fin boilers, both rated just over 2.0 million BTU/hr input: the fan-assisted CBN2067 is 84% with two-stage firing and a 14" vent, while the Copper-Fin II CHN2072 is 85% with proportional firing up to 4:1, the SMART SYSTEM cascade control and a 14" vent with a 12" air inlet.

What actually separates them

The two top sizes differ by just 5 MBH of input: the CBN2067 fires 990 to 2,065 MBH with 1,735 MBH gross output and a 1,508 MBH AHRI net rating, while the CHN2072 fires 630 to 2,070 MBH with 1,760 MBH gross output and a 1,530 MBH AHRI net rating. The Copper-Fin II fires 360 MBH lower at minimum.

Efficiency is one point apart at 84% versus 85% (AHRI certified), and the controls are a generation apart: the CBN2067 uses a two-stage electronic temperature control, while the CHN2072 carries the SMART SYSTEM control with a built-in cascading sequencer for up to 8 boilers, front-end loading with Crest or Knight, BMS integration and 0-10 VDC rate output.

Both use 2-1/2" NPT water connections on 11-1/4" centers and a 2" gas connection, with a 14" vent; the CHN2072's submittal prints a 12" air inlet where the fan-assisted line pairs the 14" vent with its own air arrangement. The CHN2072 weighs 1,219 lb against the CBN2067's 1,350 lb, and both submittals print 10-year heat-exchanger warranties.
