What actually separates them

Both boilers are wall-hung, heating-only condensing units on the same FTVN platform with the same 107 lb weight, the same 1 1/4" NPT CH connections, and the same venting terms — 2" runs to 100 ft or 3" runs to 150 ft per side. NTI rates the FTVN085 at 96% AFUE and the FTVN110 at 95%.

The firing ranges tell the sizing story: the 085 runs 8.5 to 85 MBH and the 110 runs 11 to 110 MBH. In a well-insulated Lower Mainland home the 085's lower minimum fire tracks mild shoulder-season demand more closely; the 110's advantage appears only when the calculated load or indirect-tank recovery needs more than 85 MBH.

Both are heating-only, so domestic hot water comes from an indirect tank or separate water heater on either model, and neither has an installation advantage in weight or venting. The deciding input is the room-by-room heat-loss calculation: under about 85 MBH the 96% AFUE 085 is the better match, and beyond it the 110 earns its place.

Are the two models the same size?

When should I choose the FTVN110?

When the heat-loss calculation plus hot-water recovery demand more than 85 MBH on a design day. Extra input without a matching load just raises the minimum fire the boiler idles at.
