Triangle Tube · Series
The Phase III was Triangle Tube's indirect water heater line in two families — the TR series (TR-20 through TR-120) and the SMART series (SMART 20 through SMART 100) — storing 20-119 gallons of domestic water in stainless steel tanks heated by the system boiler.
Series facts
The Phase III indirect water heaters stored domestic hot water in a stainless steel tank and reheated it from the boiler through an internal coil: the archived manual prints two families, the TR series with domestic capacities from 20 gallons (TR-20) to 119 gallons (TR-120), and the SMART series from 22 gallons (SMART 20) to 95 gallons (SMART 100). The manual's performance tables print boiler heating capacity, peak flow, first-hour flow, continuous flow and minimum circulator flow for each size, along with the dimensions, boiler-water volume, heating surface area, head loss and empty weight.
Phase III tanks were designed for vertical installation only, with maximum domestic water temperature of 190°F, maximum boiler water temperature of 210°F and maximum working pressures of 150 psig on the domestic tank and 45 psig on the boiler-water side. The manual's performance conditions are 50°F domestic cold water inlet, 140°F domestic hot water outlet and 200°F boiler water supply, with additional tables printed for other supply temperatures. Triangle Tube's current indirect line is the Cardinal and Smart 316 family, so the Phase III records exist to help owners identify and service installed units.
