What actually separates them

The EX 500 covers 50–500 MBH input and 485 MBH output; the EX 700 covers 70–700 MBH input and 679 MBH output. The 700 is the first model to move to the larger connection group: a 6" Schedule 40 flue and 2½" NPT-M water connections, with combustion air entering through a 4" collar that must transition to 6" within three feet.

Venting tightens on the larger model: 120 equivalent feet per side on the EX 700 against 170 on the EX 500, with direct-vent or indoor air supply on both. Thermal efficiency falls from 97.5% to 97.0%, and minimum boiler flow rises from 12 to 18 USgpm against the shared 100 USgpm maximum.

The EX 700 is heavier at approximately 486 lb (220 kg) versus 441 lb (200 kg) and holds more water, 17.5 USG against 12.4 USG. Both are rated 160 psig with a supplied 50 psig relief valve, approved to 12,000 ft, and documented by the EX I&O manual 120-327E10.
