IBC EX 500 in practice

The EX 500 covers 50–500 MBH CSA input (14.6–146.5 kW) with 485 MBH CSA output (142 kW) at 97.5% thermal efficiency to ANSI/AHRI-1500 — the second-highest rating in the EX line after the EX 400's 97.9%. It shares the series' touchscreen control, remote access, multi-boiler communication and 10:1 turndown.

Like the EX 400 it uses a 4" Schedule 40 flue and 4" combustion air with 170 equivalent feet of vent per side, plus 2" NPT-M water connections. It weighs approximately 441 lb (200 kg) empty, has 72.9 ft² (6.77 m²) of heating surface, holds 12.4 USG (46.9 L) of water and needs a 12 USgpm minimum flow against the 100 USgpm maximum.

All EX models are rated 160 psig maximum operating pressure with a 50 psig relief valve supplied (alternatives of 30, 100, 125 and 150 psig are available) and are approved to 12,000 ft altitude. The EX I&O manual is 120-327E10.

Best suited to

  • Commercial loads between the EX 400 and EX 700
  • Projects that want 97.5% thermal efficiency on a 4" flue
  • Mechanical rooms with up to 170 equivalent feet of vent per side
