What actually separates them

Both SFC models share the same wall-hung chassis, the same 2" (65 ft) and 3" (120 ft) venting, the same 43.5 psig heating-coil rating and the same 85 lb weight. The space-heating input is capped at 99 MBH on both, so the difference is entirely in the hot-water side.

The SFC 125-1 raises the DHW input from 99 to 125 MBH and its continuous delivery from 2.4 GPM (at a 70°F rise, per IBC) to 3.2 GPM (at a 67°F rise). That extra hot-water headroom is the reason to choose it in a household with more or larger draws.

The trade-off is efficiency: IBC rates the SFC 99-1 at 96% AFUE and the SFC 125-1 at 95%. Neither difference is large enough to decide on its own — hot-water demand and the heat-loss calculation should drive the choice.

Do both boilers have the same heating capacity?

Effectively yes: IBC caps space heating at 99 MBH input on both models. The SFC 125-1's extra input is reserved for domestic hot water.

How much more hot water does the 125 deliver?

IBC publishes 2.4 GPM continuous at a 70°F rise for the SFC 99-1 and 3.2 GPM at a 67°F rise for the SFC 125-1, with the same 4 GPM maximum DHW flow on both.

Why is the 99 rated higher efficiency?
