Comparison

Viessmann Vitogas 050 ECD-65 vs ECD-80

Verdict in brief

The ECD-65 and ECD-80 are the two smallest Vitogas 050 ECD boilers and are physically identical: three sections, two burners, 233 lb (106 kg), 2.6 USG of water and the same 340 x 502 x 1035 mm cabinet with a 5 in. vent collar. Only the firing rate differs — 65 vs 80 MBH input — along with the printed AFUE, 83.7% against 83.5%.

What actually separates them

Both boilers are atmospheric cast-iron sectional units at 50 psig maximum operating pressure in the same 340 x 502 mm (13½ x 19¾ in) footprint with a 1035 mm height. Inputs print at 65 MBH (19 kW) and 80 MBH (23 kW), with outputs of 54 and 66 MBH and the same three sections and two burners.

Weight and water content are identical at 233 lb (106 kg) and 2.6 USG, as are the 1¼ in. supply and return connections, ½ in. gas connection and 5 in. vent collar.

The ECD-65 prints the highest AFUE in the range at 83.7%; the ECD-80 prints 83.5%. Both are chimney-vented with a draft hood and ship with a vent damper for minimum-AFUE compliance.
