Comparison

Weil-McLain ECO Tec 150-H vs 199-H

Verdict in brief

The ECO Tec 199-H tops the heat-only line at 199 MBH input and 184 MBH DOE heating capacity against the 150-H's 150/139 MBH, both at 95.0% AFUE — but the 199 gives up 50 feet of the 2" vent allowance, holding it to 50 equivalent feet in 2" pipe.

What actually separates them

Both sizes rate 95.0% AFUE at 10:1 turndown with 1" NPT heating connections, but the 199-H is the top of the ECO Tec heat-only range: 199 MBH input, 184 MBH DOE heating capacity and a 160 MBH net AHRI rating against the 150-H's 150 MBH, 139 MBH and 121 MBH.

The 199-H also carries the line's largest heat exchanger — 3.8 gallons of water and 127 lb — and its one installation restriction: the boiler manual limits 2" venting to 50 equivalent feet on the 199, against 100 feet on the 150 (and every other size). Most 199 installations run 3" pipe.

Above roughly 150 MBH of calculated load the 199-H is the only ECO Tec heat-only answer; below that the 150-H provides identical efficiency and day-to-day behaviour at a lower entry point and with the full 2" vent allowance.

The ECO Tec 150-H is the first ECO Tec size to grow the heat exchanger: 150 MBH input, 139 MBH DOE heating capacity and a 121 MBH net AHRI rating at 95.0% AFUE, in a 117 lb unit with 3.1 gallons of water content.

Frequently asked questions

What are the differences between the 150-H and 199-H?

Input rises from 150 to 199 MBH, DOE heating capacity from 139 to 184 MBH, net AHRI from 121 to 160 MBH, water content from 3.1 to 3.8 gallons, and weight from 117 to 127 lb.

Can the 199-H vent in 2" pipe?

Yes, but only to 50 equivalent feet — half the 100-foot allowance every other ECO Tec size gets in 2" pipe. In 3" pipe the 199 reaches the full 100 ft.

When is the 199-H justified over the 150-H?

When the heat-loss calculation for a large home or small multi-suite building exceeds what the 150-H can deliver on a design day.
