Energy Kinetics System 2000 Frontier

The System 2000 Frontier is Energy Kinetics' gas-fired, low-mass heating and hot-water system built around the EK1 and EK2 energy converters: EK1 covers 80,000–150,000 BTU/hr input (four printed sizes, 83–86% AFUE on natural gas) and EK2 covers 175,000–250,000 BTU/hr (four sizes, 82–85%), each combining heat and hot water through the Energy Manager control and a hot water tank.

The EK1/EK2 gas data sheet prints natural-gas and propane columns for every input row; the line is also offered in oil configurations documented in separate Energy Kinetics literature that Boilers.ca does not republish.
Venting
Chimney venting is standard with a power-vent (chimneyless) option: the data sheet describes a 10-foot long flue passage that lets gases leave relatively cool so the system can be vented directly through the wall at ground level without a chimney.

The EK1/EK2 gas data sheet prints AFUE per input row: EK1 83–86% natural gas and 86–88% propane; EK2 82–85% natural gas and 84–87% propane. The 88% figure is the highest printed propane row (EK1 80,000).

About the System 2000 Frontier

The System 2000 Frontier is Energy Kinetics' integrated heat-and-hot-water system, published on the official site as 'System 2000 Frontier Boilers' with the claim that it combines heat and hot water in one system and incorporates the company's Energy Manager control. The product page describes a low-mass spiral 'energy converter' with a 10-foot wide open flue passage, a high-temperature ceramic combustion chamber, a 2-inch insulation wrap, a swing-down door for service, an advanced plate heat exchanger, air elimination and a high-efficiency ECM circulator, with chimney venting standard and a power-vent option for installations without a chimney. The page and brand literature position the line for residential heating plus domestic hot water from a storage tank, and the brand's overview page groups System 2000, Resolute and Accel CS as the company's heat-and-hot-water systems.

The EK1/EK2 gas data sheet prints the model-level ratings documented here. EK1 Frontier: 80,000 BTU/hr input with 69,000 BTU/hr gross output at 86% AFUE (natural gas) or 70,000/88% (propane); 100,000 with 85,000/85% or 88,000/88%; 120,000 with 101,000/84% or 105,000/87%; 150,000 with 125,000/83% or 129,000/86%. EK2 Frontier: 175,000 with 149,000/85% or 153,000/87%; 200,000 with 168,000/84% or 172,000/87%; 225,000 with 187,000/83% or 192,000/85%; 250,000 with 204,000/82% or 209,000/84%. The data sheet lists water content of 2.5 gallons (EK1) and 4 gallons (EK2), energy-converter weights of 270 lb (EK1) and 350 lb (EK2), 3/16-inch pressure-vessel steel throughout, ASME code construction and National Board registration, a 300°F net stack temperature, and wet-base design. A commercial EK3 sibling covers 300,000–399,000 BTU/hr gas input (up to 87% combustion efficiency) and is linked from the same literature page but not documented at model level here.

Boilers.ca documents the eight EK1/EK2 gas rating rows at model level from the data sheet and links the published warranty and System 2000 brochure. No official Canadian-sales statement was found, so canadianStatus stays 'unknown'.

Frequently asked questions

Is the System 2000 Frontier available in Canada?

No official Canadian-sales statement was found on the official pages reviewed on September 9, 2026, so canadianStatus is recorded 'unknown'. Confirm supply through a licensed distributor.

What is the difference between EK1 and EK2?

The EK1 energy converter covers 80,000–150,000 BTU/hr input in four sizes at 83–86% AFUE (natural gas), and the EK2 covers 175,000–250,000 BTU/hr in four sizes at 82–85%; EK1 holds 2.5 gallons of water at 270 lb and EK2 holds 4 gallons at 350 lb per the gas data sheet.

Does System 2000 need a chimney?

Chimney venting is standard, and the data sheet documents a power-vent chimneyless option: the 10-foot flue passage lets gases leave relatively cool so the system can vent directly through the wall at ground level.
