HTP PHR160-55 in practice

The PHR160-55 is one of the four Pioneer models (PHR100-55 through PHR199-55) on HTP's retired product page. The official page table prints a 40,000 to 160,000 BTU/hr modulation range at 95% thermal efficiency, and LP-325 Table 4 adds a 260 lb shipping weight, 55 gal of water content, a 23" x 56" x 34" (W x H x D) cabinet and 1-1/4" NPT female supply/return with 3/4" NPT gas.

The Pioneer is a high-mass design: a 90/10 cupronickel primary and 800H stainless/cupronickel secondary heat exchanger with a built-in 304L stainless steel buffer tank that HTP describes as eliminating primary/secondary piping. The retired page prints a five to one turndown, up to 95% thermal efficiency, SCAQMD Rule 1146.2 compliance, a 926 SIT control with outdoor reset and indirect priority, cascade support, and 12-year limited warranty. Venting is 3" (200 ft) or 4" (200 ft), combined equivalent feet in PVC, CPVC, polypropylene or stainless steel.

The Pioneer is retired: HTP's discontinued-products index lists 'Pioneer' and the retired page remains posted without a sales channel. Boilers.ca records it with productStatus 'discontinued' and canadianStatus 'unknown'; no official Canadian sales statement was found. Service an installed unit with a licensed contractor against LP-325.

Frequently asked questions

What is the input range of the PHR160-55?

LP-325 Table 4 and the retired page print 40,000 to 160,000 BTU/hr with 95% thermal efficiency.

Is the Pioneer still sold?

No — HTP's discontinued-products index lists the Pioneer, and the retired product page remains as documentation only.

Does the Pioneer need primary/secondary piping?

The retired page states the built-in buffer tank 'eliminates the need for primary/secondary piping design due to thermal mass'; LP-325 still requires installation per its piping instructions.
