IBC VX “Controller board” alert

Error – Controller Board

Needs attentionIBC VX Series boilers with the V-10 touchscreen controller

The manual lists this alert when the control board detects an internal error. Poor incoming power is the typical cause noted in the manual, and a reboot of the boiler may clear it.

Applies to

This alert is shown by the V-10 touchscreen controller on VX Series residential boilers (VX 110, VX 150 and VX 199), as documented in IBC Installation & Operating Manual — VX 110 / VX 150 / VX 199, doc 120-347E6, sections 9.2–9.4.

Controller: V-10 touchscreen controller. Source manual: 120-347E6 (2026-08-07).

Why a code is not a diagnosis

An internal control-board alert says little about the boiler's gas or water side: the fault is in the electronics, and the manual notes it is 'typically a result of poor incoming power.' Supply quality, grounding and the board itself all need checking if it recurs.

Safe things to observe

  • Note the alert text and whether it appears after storms, power cuts or other electrical events.
  • Confirm the boiler's breaker is not tripping repeatedly.
  • If the alert clears after a restart and does not return, no immediate action may be needed — but recurring board alerts deserve a service visit.

Do not

  • Do not open the control module or attempt any board-level repair.
  • Do not keep power-cycling the boiler to clear a recurring board alert.

How professional service helps

  1. A technician checks incoming power quality, voltage and grounding.
  2. The manual's guidance is followed; a board fault that recurs after a clean reboot points to replacing the control module.

Can I fix a controller-board alert by rebooting?

The manual says the alert may require a reboot and is typically caused by poor incoming power. If it comes back, the power supply must be checked and the board may need replacing — that is technician work.
