IBC VX “Failsafe Setpoint” display message

Failsafe Setpoint

Needs attentionIBC VX Series boilers with the V-10 touchscreen controller

The manual lists this warning when a subordinate boiler in a network has lost contact with its Master, or a boiler set up for external control has lost contact with the external controller. The boiler falls back to a failsafe setpoint so the building keeps some heat.

Applies to

This warning message is shown by the V-10 touchscreen controller on VX Series residential boilers (VX 110, VX 150 and VX 199), as documented in IBC Installation & Operating Manual — VX 110 / VX 150 / VX 199, doc 120-347E6, sections 9.2–9.4.

Controller: V-10 touchscreen controller. Source manual: 120-347E6 (2026-08-07).

Why a code is not a diagnosis

The warning means a control link is down: the master is off or faulted, network wiring is broken, or the external 0-10 V / building controller signal is missing. The boiler itself may be perfectly healthy.

Safe things to observe

  • Note which boiler shows the warning and check that the master or external controller has power.
  • If the building is still heating at the failsafe setpoint, the situation is stable until a technician checks the wiring.

Do not

  • Do not rewire control links yourself.

How professional service helps

  1. A technician confirms the master boiler or external controller is operational and properly wired.
  2. For external control, the voltage input and wiring are checked and corrected.

Frequently asked questions

What does the boiler do in failsafe?

It maintains a safe fallback water temperature so the building does not go cold while the main controller link is down, instead of shutting off entirely.
