IBC VX “Outlet Limited” display message

Outlet Limited

Needs attentionIBC VX Series boilers with the V-10 touchscreen controller

The manual lists this warning when the controller detects a difference greater than 40°F between the inlet and outlet temperature sensors. The boiler limits its output to protect the heat exchanger while the cause is investigated.

Applies to

This warning message is shown by the V-10 touchscreen controller on VX Series residential boilers (VX 110, VX 150 and VX 199), as documented in IBC Installation & Operating Manual — VX 110 / VX 150 / VX 199, doc 120-347E6, sections 9.2–9.4.

Controller: V-10 touchscreen controller. Source manual: 120-347E6 (2026-08-07).

Why a code is not a diagnosis

A large inlet/outlet spread usually means flow is too low — a failed pump, a flow restriction, or a stuck valve — or a temperature sensor reading wrongly. The warning does not identify which.

Safe things to observe

  • Note the warning and whether rooms are still reaching temperature.
  • Check whether a particular zone stopped heating, which can point to a valve or pump on that circuit.

Do not

  • Do not keep pushing the boiler while a flow problem may exist.

How professional service helps

  1. A technician checks the pump, flow restriction points and the temperature sensors named in the manual.
  2. The system is balanced and the boiler's output limit is confirmed to clear.

Frequently asked questions

Is Outlet Limited an error?

No. It is a warning: the boiler keeps running but limits output to protect itself while the flow or sensor problem exists. It should still be investigated.
