IBC VX “Temperature probe error” alert

Error – Temp. probe error

Needs attentionIBC VX Series boilers with the V-10 touchscreen controller

The manual lists this alert when an internal temperature sensor appears shorted or open-circuit, or when paired (dual) sensors deliver divergent values. The control needs consistent temperature readings to manage firing safely.

Applies to

This alert is shown by the V-10 touchscreen controller on VX Series residential boilers (VX 110, VX 150 and VX 199), as documented in IBC Installation & Operating Manual — VX 110 / VX 150 / VX 199, doc 120-347E6, sections 9.2–9.4.

Controller: V-10 touchscreen controller. Source manual: 120-347E6 (2026-08-07).

Why a code is not a diagnosis

A probe error can be the sensor itself, its wiring, or its mounting. The manual names the supply, return and vent temperature sensors as the ones to check, and notes the alert also triggers when dual sensors disagree — which can be a mounting problem rather than a dead sensor.

Safe things to observe

  • Note the alert text and whether the boiler still produces heat.
  • If the boiler stops firing and the alert persists, there is no homeowner fix; call a technician.

Do not

  • Do not attempt to test or replace temperature sensors yourself.

How professional service helps

  1. A technician checks each temperature sensor's wiring and resistance against the manual's values.
  2. Sensors are re-seated or replaced and dual-sensor readings are compared after repair.
