Noritz NRCB180DV in practice

The NRCB180DV pairs whole-home space heating with on-demand domestic hot water in one wall-hung condensing appliance: heating-mode input runs 18,000 to 100,000 BTU/h while the standard (DHW) side fires 18,000 to 180,000 BTU/h with DHW flow of 0.4 to 9.8 GPM per the official product page. Noritz rates the series 95.0% AFUE and builds it around 316L stainless steel primary and secondary heat exchangers with a fully modulating premix burner the pages state emits about 14 ppm NOx.

The model code's 180 names its DHW ceiling: domestic hot water draws up to 180,000 BTU/h of input while space heating tops out at 100,000 BTU/h, so sizing follows both the building's heat-loss calculation and the household's hot-water demand. The unit measures 27" high by 18.5" wide by 12.8" deep and weighs 95 lb, connects on 1" heating water fittings with 3/4" DHW and gas connections, and vents as a sealed combustion direct vent in 2" or 3" PVC, CPVC, polypropylene or stainless steel pipe — in Canada, plastic vent systems must be ULC S636-certified per the installation manual.

Noritz stocks the NRCB at its Vancouver, BC warehouse for Canadian wholesaler orders effective August 1, 2025, and the shared NRCB installation manual (SBB80UB-5, Rev. 04/21) covers US and Canadian codes (CSA B149.1). Boilers.ca found no Canadian CRN registration numbers or Canadian warranty terms on noritz.com; purchases run through wholesaler-distributors.

Best suited to

  • Homes whose room-by-room heat-loss calculation fits under the 100 MBH heating ceiling
  • Households whose hot-water demand stays within the 180,000 BTU/h DHW side
  • Combi replacements where one wall-hung unit must cover heating and on-demand hot water

Frequently asked questions

How much space heating does the NRCB180DV provide?

Heating-mode input is 18,000 to 100,000 BTU/h, and the domestic hot water side fires 18,000 to 180,000 BTU/h at 95.0% AFUE. A room-by-room heat-loss calculation decides whether the 100 MBH heating ceiling fits the home.

Can the NRCB180DV run on propane?

Yes. Noritz's official product identities include US NG and US LP versions of the GHQ-C2801WX-FF chassis, and the spec sheet prints separate gas supply pressures for natural gas and propane. Fuel setup and conversion are licensed gas-fitting work.

How does the NRCB180DV compare with the NRCB199DV?

They are the same physical unit — 95 lb, 18.5 x 27 x 12.8 in, 18 MBH minimum fire and 95.0% AFUE. The NRCB199DV fires higher at the top of both ranges: 120 MBH heating against 100 MBH, and 199,900 BTU/h DHW input against 180,000.
