Buderus GB162-100 kW

The Buderus GB162-100 kW is the largest North American GB162: 72,000 to 333,000 BTU/hr natural-gas input and 295,000 BTU/hr CSA output, with BTS 2000 efficiency figures (96.1 part load) in place of an AFUE row, in the same 154 lb wall cabinet as the 80 kW.

Buderus GB162-100 kW in practice

The GB162-100 kW is the top of the two-model North American GB162 range and the size a cascade plant is usually built from: natural-gas input runs 72,000 to 333,000 BTU/hr (62,000 to 315,000 on propane) with a 295,000 BTU/hr CSA output. Bosch's CA product page describes cascades linking typically two to four boilers, expandable to eight, and claims a four-boiler cascade delivering over 1,000 MBH can fit in less than 13 square feet of floor space.

Efficiency documentation differs from the 80 kW: the service-manual appendix prints no AFUE row for the 100 kW and instead lists BTS 2000 figures of 96.1 (part load) and 90.8 (full load) at 80/180 °F, alongside the family-level 'up to 93% AFUE' claim on the CA product page. Physical data matches the 80 kW: 50.4 x 20.5 x 18.3 in cabinet, 154 lb (70 kg) without the pump group, 4" flue connection (4"/4" parallel for room-air-independent runs).

The 100 kW runs the same UBA 3/BC10 control package as the 80 kW with its two-character-plus-sub-code fault display and LED state column. Like its sibling it is still a current CA catalog product while the US catalog lists the GB162 as discontinued — a cross-border status difference buyers should confirm with Bosch Thermotechnology Corp.

Best suited to

  • Large residences and light-commercial plants at the top of the GB162 range
  • Cascade designs needing the 100 kW unit as the building block
  • Installations where the same 154 lb wall cabinet must deliver up to 333 MBH input

Frequently asked questions

What is the CSA output of the GB162-100 kW?

295,000 BTU/hr on natural gas per the service-manual appendix, with input from 72,000 to 333,000 BTU/hr (315,000 on propane).

Why does the 100 kW not have an AFUE number?

The service-manual appendix prints BTS 2000 figures for the 100 kW (96.1 part load, 90.8 full load at 80/180 °F) instead of an AFUE row, while the 80 kW gets AFUE 93.8/93.9. Bosch's CA page claims 'up to 93% AFUE' for the GB162 family.

Can the GB162-100 kW be cascaded?

Yes — cascading is the GB162's design focus per Bosch's CA page: typically two to four boilers, expandable up to eight, with common venting of up to four.
