IBC VX “Fan pressure” alert

Error – Fan Pressure

Needs attentionIBC VX Series boilers with the V-10 touchscreen controller

The manual lists this alert when the fan power consumed by the safety and ignition module (SIM+) exceeds its threshold during operation. It is a protective check that the fan is not being overloaded, which is often a sign the air path is harder to push through than it should be.

Applies to

This alert is shown by the V-10 touchscreen controller on VX Series residential boilers (VX 110, VX 150 and VX 199), as documented in IBC Installation & Operating Manual — VX 110 / VX 150 / VX 199, doc 120-347E6, sections 9.2–9.4.

Controller: V-10 touchscreen controller. Source manual: 120-347E6 (2026-08-07).

Why a code is not a diagnosis

The alert does not reveal why fan power is high: a blocked vent or intake, an obstructed flue passage, a failing fan, or an electrical fault are all on the manual's check list. Diagnosis requires measuring the vent path and the fan circuit.

Safe things to observe

  • Note the alert text and whether it recurs during heating, hot-water production or both.
  • Check the vent terminal from a safe distance for blockage or obstruction.
  • If a CO alarm sounds, leave the building and call 911 from outside.

Do not

  • Do not reset the boiler repeatedly while the condition persists.
  • Do not attempt to clean or modify the fan or vent components yourself.

How professional service helps

  1. A technician checks the vent and combustion-air paths for restriction, including screens, elbows and terminals.
  2. Fan operation, harness connections and control output are verified.
  3. The fault history is reviewed and the boiler is test-fired before it is returned to service.
