IBC VX “Module high current” alert

Error – Module High Current

Needs attentionIBC VX Series boilers with the V-10 touchscreen controller

The manual lists this alert when the voltage supply to the safety and ignition module (SIM+) and gas valve exceeds 24 VAC. The module monitors its own supply to protect the control electronics and the gas valve circuitry.

Applies to

This alert is shown by the V-10 touchscreen controller on VX Series residential boilers (VX 110, VX 150 and VX 199), as documented in IBC Installation & Operating Manual — VX 110 / VX 150 / VX 199, doc 120-347E6, sections 9.2–9.4.

Controller: V-10 touchscreen controller. Source manual: 120-347E6 (2026-08-07).

Why a code is not a diagnosis

Excess voltage usually points to a transformer fault, a wiring fault, or voltage backfeed from field wiring — not to the boiler's gas or water circuits. An electrician-grade check of the supply and transformer is part of the diagnosis.

Safe things to observe

  • Note the alert text and whether the boiler display dims, flickers or shows other electrical symptoms.
  • Check whether the alert appeared after other electrical work in the home.
  • Do not touch electrical components; leave the cabinet closed.

Do not

  • Do not open the boiler cabinet or touch the transformer, module or wiring.
  • Do not keep resetting the boiler while the supply voltage is suspect.

How professional service helps

  1. A technician measures the incoming supply and transformer output voltages.
  2. Wiring and harness connections to the SIM+ module and gas valve are inspected.
  3. Any voltage backfeed from field wiring is traced and corrected.
