IBC VX “Roll out switch” alert
Error – Roll Out Switch
The manual lists this alert when the rollout switch beside the combustion chamber detects 230°F, meaning flame or hot combustion gas is rolling out of the burner area instead of staying in the combustion chamber. The boiler locks out and the switch must be manually reset only after the cause is found.
If a carbon-monoxide alarm sounds
- Leave the building immediately and get fresh air.
- Call 911. Do not go back inside until emergency services say it is safe.
- Have every fuel-burning appliance inspected before use.

Why a code is not a diagnosis
Rollout is a combustion-safety event. Common causes include a restricted flue passage, leaking lid/fan/ignitor gaskets, an obstructed heat exchanger, or improper combustion. The alert does not identify the cause, and the boiler must not simply be reset and run.
Safe things to observe
- Treat this alert seriously: it means combustion gas did not go where it should.
- If a carbon-monoxide alarm sounds, leave the building immediately and call 911 from outside.
- Turn the boiler off at its service switch and call a licensed technician before running it again.
- If you smell gas, leave and call FortisBC at 1-800-663-9911 or 911 first.

- Do not reset the rollout switch yourself or run the boiler after a rollout event.
- Do not operate the boiler until a technician has found and corrected the cause.
