Laars FTCW140 in practice

The FTCW140 is the combination version of the FT wall platform at 140,000 BTU/h — the same wall-hung condensing layout as the FTHW140 but with domestic hot water produced by the combi itself, as documented in the FTCW installation manual, Document 1487C. Natural gas is the factory configuration and propane is field-convertible.

Its code table is the combi set from Document 1487C: the two-digit FT codes appear alongside combi-only entries such as codes 66 and 68 for the mixing valve and code 32 for the DHW outlet sensor, each with Soft Lock or Hard Lock recovery. Because the combi manual differs from the heating-only manual, FTCW140 owners should read codes from Document 1487C rather than the FTHW manual.

Best suited to

  • Homes that want heating plus on-demand hot water from one wall-hung appliance
  • Households whose heat-loss calculation fits 140 MBH with combi-grade hot-water demand
  • Replacing a boiler-plus-tank pair with a single condensing combi

Frequently asked questions

What makes the FTCW140 different from the FTHW140?

Both are 140,000 BTU/h wall-hung condensing units, but the FTCW140 is the combination model with integrated domestic hot water, documented in its own combi manual (Document 1487C) with DHW and mixing-valve codes the heating-only FTHW manual does not carry.

Which error codes are combi-only on the FTCW140?

The FTCW combi table adds entries tied to the domestic hot water side, including code 32 for the DHW outlet sensor and codes 66 and 68 for the mixing valve. The full table is Section 6.1 of Document 1487C.

Can the FTCW140 run on propane?

The manual cover states propane is field-convertible from the natural-gas factory configuration; the conversion and combustion setup are licensed gas-fitting work per Laars' procedure.
