A controller that speaks in sentences
The V-10 is the touchscreen controller on IBC's SL Series G3 residential boilers (SL 10-85 G3, SL 14-115 G3, SL 20-160 G3, SL 30-199 G3) and on the VX Series (VX 110, VX 150, VX 199). Unlike many competitors, the V-10 does not print a numeric fault code for the conditions it manages: it shows descriptive text on the screen, and the installation manuals for both series document those messages by name in their error and warning sections.
That wording is precise, and precision matters when you report a problem. A screen showing Error – Low Water Pressure is a different message from Error – Low Water Cutoff, and Error – Vent High Limit is different from Error – Low RPM / Air Flow, even though all four live in the same part of the controller's vocabulary. The single most useful habit with a V-10 boiler is to write down the full displayed sentence before pressing anything, because a paraphrased message loses exactly the detail a technician needs.
The text alert families the manuals document
IBC's SL G3 manual documents V-10 error alerts that describe the protection that tripped. Error – Water High-Limit appears when the boiler water temperature exceeds the high limit, which the SL G3 manual lists as 208°F, or 201°F sustained for fifteen seconds, and the boiler enters a hard lockout that is reset through the controller's error menu after the system is confirmed full and pressurized. Error – Vent High Limit protects the vent material, listed as 248°F for six seconds or 232°F for sixty seconds with CPVC or polypropylene pipe, and the VX manual adds lower ceilings of 205°F and 189°F where PVC venting is used on the VX 110 or VX 150.
Ignition alerts behave differently again. The manual describes Error – Ignition trials exceeded as the message shown after three failed ignition attempts, followed by a one-hour lockout before the boiler retries on its own, with gas supply, purge state, ignition lead and grounding among the checks listed for a technician. Safety-classed messages include Error – Roll Out Switch, which the manual ties to a 230°F reading at the rollout switch beside the combustion chamber, meaning flame or hot combustion gas left the burner area; the boiler locks out and must not be reset until the cause is found.

Alerts, warnings and informational messages are different classes
Not everything the V-10 shows is a lockout. The manuals classify their display conditions, and the class changes the response. Errors such as the high-limit or rollout messages stop the boiler and demand investigation. Warnings leave the boiler able to run, sometimes at reduced output: the manual lists Outlet Limited as a warning shown when the inlet and outlet sensors read more than 40°F apart, with the controller limiting output to protect the heat exchanger while the flow or sensor cause is checked. Informational messages sit lower still: Unoccupied tells you the Occupied box in the User Menu is unchecked, Summer tells you an outdoor temperature above the Summer Shutdown setting is blocking a heating call, and the message Error – See: Status > SIM menu > Status points to the logged record of an error that cleared on its own.

A recurring informational message, such as a cleared error that keeps reappearing, is still worth a service visit, but it is not an emergency in the way a rollout or vent-limit lockout is. Knowing which class you are looking at decides whether the boiler stays off, runs limited, or simply needs its schedule checked.
The numeric-display relatives: SFC and SFT F-codes
The V-10 text scheme belongs to the SL G3 and VX series. IBC's SFC-1 combi boilers (SFC 99-1, SFC 125-1, SFC 199-1) and the SFT 199-1 tankless water heater use a different, numeric-display control that prints F-numbered fault codes, and both product families are documented on this site with those codes. The shared scheme covers sensor and safety families: F000 is documented as a heat exchanger temperature sensor fault, F003 as a high flue temperature, F004 as no flame detected during four ignition trials, F018 as a flue or combustion-air blockage, and F029 as a gas valve fault, with each code recorded against the installation instructions for the exact appliance.
The F-code tables are not identical between the two appliances, because the SFC is a combi and the SFT has no central-heating mode. Codes such as F001, high heat exchanger temperature during central heating demand, and F027 and F031, which concern outdoor and supply sensors, are documented for the SFC-1 combi scopes, while the SFT-1 scope omits them. The lesson is the same one the V-10 teaches in text: the code or message means what the manual for the actual appliance and controller says it means, nothing more and nothing less.

Safe first steps, lookup and when to call
Whatever the V-10 shows, the first steps are the same. Write down the full alert, warning or message text and note whether the boiler was heating, making hot water, or standing idle when it appeared. If you smell gas, leave the building and call the gas utility's emergency line or 911 from outside before doing anything else, and if a carbon-monoxide alarm sounds anywhere in the building, leave immediately and call 911 from outside. A lockout that keeps returning is a service matter, not a reason to keep pressing reset: IBC's own documentation describes one-hour lockout behaviour after repeated ignition failure precisely so the boiler stops being coaxed into more attempts.
Do not remove covers, touch ignition or gas components, adjust valves, or bypass any safety device, and do not attempt to purge a gas line.
