IBC HC 33-160 in practice

The HC 33-160 was the top size of IBC's discontinued HC heating line, covering 33–160 MBH CSA input (9.7–46.9 kW) for 30.4–140 MBH output (8.9–41.0 kW) at 94% AFUE. It is heating-only: the specification table lists the 43.5 psig space-heating coil and 50–194°F water temperatures, with a 30 psig relief valve supplied.

At full fire it draws 164 W with the internal pump — the highest figure in the HC range — and weighs 96 lb (44 kg) with 0.5 USG (1.9 L) of vessel water. Maximum boiler flow is 11 USgpm and the minimum is 3 USgpm, with gas supply at 5–14" w.c. and a 12,000 ft altitude rating.

The 33-160 is covered by HC I&O manual 120-185-A-R10. IBC's November 2019 service notice applies to this model: it covers a heat-exchanger gasket upgrade for HC 33-160 and DC 33-160 units built July 2014–November 2016, so owners should check the serial range with a licensed contractor.

Best suited to

  • Owners of an HC 33-160 checking the gasket service notice and serial range
  • Larger homes where the 140 MBH output matches the heat loss
  • Technicians servicing the largest HC boiler from manual 120-185-A-R10
