IBC HC 23-84 in practice

The HC 23-84 matches the DC 23-84's heating-side ratings — 23–84 MBH CSA input (6.7–24.9 kW), 21.2–74.8 MBH output (6.2–21.9 kW) and 94% AFUE — but as a heating-only boiler it has no domestic-hot-water coil or DHW temperature rows. The space-heating coil is rated 43.5 psig with a supplied 30 psig relief valve.

It weighs 85 lb (39 kg), holds 0.37 USG (1.4 L) and draws 126 W at full fire with the internal pump; maximum boiler flow is 9 USgpm and the minimum is 2 USgpm. Space-heating water runs 50–194°F, gas supply is 5–14" w.c. and the unit is approved to 12,000 ft altitude.

The 23-84 is covered by HC I&O manual 120-185-A-R9 (the same document IBC lists as its discontinued-models file). It vents 120 equivalent feet in 3" or 35 feet in 2" per side, and the discontinued HC Series remains documented on IBC's Technical Information Portal.

Best suited to

  • Owners comparing an HC 23-84 with the DC 23-84 combi
  • Homes where a heating-only boiler at up to 74.8 MBH output matches the load
  • Technicians working from HC I&O manual 120-185-A-R9
