Viessmann Vitodens 100-W B1HE-85
The Vitodens 100-W B1HE-85 is the smallest boiler in Viessmann Canada's 100-W line: 8.5 to 85 MBH input at 95% AFUE in a 108 lb wall-hung cabinet, with the lowest minimum fire in the series for tight, well-insulated homes.

Viessmann Vitodens 100-W B1HE-85 in practice
The B1HE-85 is the entry point of the Vitodens 100-W B1HE range and carries the series' lowest minimum input at 8.5 MBH (2.5 kW). For a tight, well-insulated Lower Mainland home — a modern laneway house, a renovated suite or a small detached house — that low fire rate lets the boiler run steadily in shoulder seasons instead of cycling on and off.
It is heating-only, so domestic hot water comes from an indirect tank paired with the boiler; the B1KE combi models in the same series produce DHW on demand instead. On the current generation the boiler uses the MatriX-Plus cylinder burner and Inox-Radial stainless steel heat exchanger, and it is rated 95% AFUE like every model in the series.
Because the B1HE-85 weighs 108 lb (49 kg) and measures 17.75 x 19.75 x 33.75 inches (450 x 500 x 859 mm), it fits the same wall space and handling plan as the B1HE-120; the choice between them is input range, not footprint, and belongs to the heat-loss calculation.
Best suited to
- Small, well-insulated homes whose heat-loss calculation fits below 85 MBH
- Homes wanting the lowest minimum fire in the Vitodens 100-W line
- Replacing an older low-input boiler where 85 MBH comfortably covers the load

Frequently asked questions
Can the B1HE-85 heat my whole house?
If the room-by-room heat-loss calculation lands within its range, yes. The B1HE-85 caps at 85 MBH input, so homes with larger loads or heavy indirect-tank recovery needs should step up to the B1HE-120 or larger.
Does the B1HE-85 make domestic hot water?
No. It is heating-only; domestic hot water is handled by an indirect tank paired with the boiler. The B1KE combi models in this series provide on-demand DHW instead.
Why does the low 8.5 MBH minimum fire matter?
In a low-load home a boiler that cannot throttle down will short-cycle in mild weather. At 8.5 MBH minimum input, the B1HE-85 can match the small loads typical of well-insulated Vancouver homes for much of the year.
