Weil-McLain EG-75 in practice

The EG-75 is the largest of the eight EG sizes at 282 MBH CSA input, producing 237 MBH of DOE water heating capacity and 234 MBH in steam, with net AHRI ratings of 206 MBH water and 176 MBH steam covering 733 sq ft. It is rated 84% AFUE in water and 82% in steam and ships at approximately 735 lb.

Like the rest of the range it is atmospheric cast iron with Category I, B-vent venting, vertical only — draft hood, automatic vent damper and 8" I.D. chimney collar — and it shares the 3/4" gas connection with the EG-65. The manual lists a 3" supply, 2-1/2" return, 3/4" relief tapping, 22.3 gal of water content and 14.0 gal to the steam waterline. One published discrepancy: the CA discontinued page says steam coverage runs to 750 sq ft, while the US spec table and manual top out at the EG-75's 733 sq ft. The EG is discontinued in Canada; the US continues it as Series 6 and Series 7.

Best suited to

  • The largest EG loads near 282 MBH
  • Steam systems needing about 733 sq ft of radiation
  • Documenting the 750 vs 733 sq ft steam discrepancy
