Rinnai IP090S
The Rinnai IP090S is the mid-size I-Series+ solo: a heating-only condensing boiler firing 15 to 90 MBH of input at the same 62.6 lb and small-chassis footprint as the IP060S, with hot water via an indirect tank.
Key figures
- Max input
- 90 MBH
- Max CSA output

- AFUE
- 96 %
- Min input
- 15 MBH
Input is gas energy consumed; output is heat delivered. Never size from input alone.
Rinnai IP090S in practice
The IP090S shares the entry chassis with the IP060S — 62.6 lb, 0.75 gal of CH water, 18.5 x 11.5 in — but fires higher: 15,000 to 90,000 BTU/h of central-heating input. As a heating-only solo it has no DHW connections, and the I&O manual documents indirect-tank control with recovery priority by default.
Solo venting is uniform across the ≤150k line per the manual: 75 equivalent feet in 2" twin pipe or 160 in 3". Supply connections are 3/4" NPT gas and 1" NPT heating.
The family efficiency claim is up to 96% AFUE (marketing copy); the manual prints no per-model AFUE figure. The control reports plain numeric codes (no E prefix), with solo-only rows for indirect-tank codes in the solo manual.
Best suited to
- Homes with an indirect tank whose heat loss fits under 90 MBH
- A step up in heating reach without a chassis or weight change
- Mechanical rooms where the light 62.6 lb wall mount matters

Frequently asked questions
How does the IP090S differ from the IP060S?
Only in heating reach: 90,000 BTU/h maximum input against 60,000 BTU/h. Both weigh 62.6 lb, share the small chassis and have identical venting and connections.
Is the IP090S a combi boiler?
No. The S suffix marks the heating-only solo line: no domestic hot water is produced inside the unit, so an indirect tank or another appliance supplies DHW.
What error codes does a solo show that a combi does not?
Solo-only rows in the manual include 371 (indirect thermistor) and 831 (indirect tank temperature); combi-only rows such as 021, 651 and 661 do not apply to the solo.
