About the ECO Tec

Weil-McLain Canada sells the ECO Tec in two menu entries with two URLs — heat-only (80, 110, 150 and 199 MBH) and combi (110, 150 and 199 MBH) — but a single Series 2 boiler manual (550-100-270/0924) covers both variants in one ratings table. The heat exchanger is a stainless steel firetube design, and the CA product pages describe high-grade stainless steel with a colour touchscreen control.

Every ECO Tec size is rated 95% AFUE, and the CA pages list modulation up to 10:1 (8:1 on the 80 size), a built-in ECM circulator and a 3-inch vent connection that also accepts 2" piping through an adapter. All models are Category IV and direct-vented; the manual's ratings table prints water content, DOE heating capacity and net AHRI figures per model, and vent/air runs are allowed to 100 equivalent feet in 2" or 3" pipe, with the 199 size limited to 50 feet in 2".

The combi models add a brazed-plate domestic hot water module and, per the CA page, deliver up to 5.4 GPM of DHW at a 70°F rise — a brochure claim that corresponds to the 199 size. The control shows text fault names on its touchscreen rather than numeric error codes, and Weil-McLain also hosts a Series 2 Advanced Manual for diagnostics.

Frequently asked questions

Is the ECO Tec combi a different boiler from the heat-only ECO Tec?

The heat-only and combi variants share one platform and one Series 2 boiler manual; the combi models add a brazed-plate domestic hot water module so they can produce DHW on demand. Both are sold on weil-mclain.ca as separate menu entries.

What venting does the ECO Tec use?

It is a Category IV direct-vent boiler: 2" or 3" PVC, CPVC, polypropylene or AL29-4C stainless steel, up to 100 equivalent feet in either size (the 199 is limited to 50 feet in 2"). Canadian installations need a ULC S636-compliant vent kit per CAN/CSA B149.1 or B149.2.

How does the ECO Tec show faults?

The ECO Tec's colour touchscreen shows text fault names and messages, not numeric error codes. Weil-McLain documents the fault list in the Series 2 boiler manual and the Advanced Manual.
