Rinnai i-Series+ Combi

Rinnai's Canadian I-Series+ combis put space heating and on-demand domestic hot water in one wall-hung condensing appliance: the five models up to 150 MBH input (IP060160C through IP150199C) are documented here in full from the EN I&O manual 800000190(02), and the two larger combis (IP175199C, IP199199C) are on rinnai.ca but only as draft models here, because their I&O content is raster-only pending review.

Vent connection is 2" nominal PVC/polypropylene (twin pipe) or 3" x 5" concentric, with direct-vent and room-air options; maximum equivalent lengths are per model in the I&O manual (Tables 17 and 20), so the manual for the specific model governs — IP090099C, for example, allows 100 equivalent ft in 2" below 2,000 ft elevation.

"Up to 96% AFUE" per Rinnai Canada marketing copy on the I-SERIES+ pages and the Canadian brochure. The I&O manual spec tables print no AFUE figure and no per-model rating is published, so this is the manufacturer's claim, not a measured per-model figure.

About the i-Series+ Combi

The I-Series+ combi is the Canadian version of Rinnai's current residential combination boiler: one wall-hung, indoor, gas-fired condensing appliance that heats the building and produces domestic hot water on demand with no storage tank. Model codes read CH input first, then DHW input: IP060160C means a 60,000 BTU/h central-heating input with a 160,000 BTU/h DHW input, and the DHW side is larger than the heating side on every model except IP090099C, where both sides are 90 MBH and 99 MBH.

Five combis up to 150 MBH input are covered in full here — IP060160C, IP090099C, IP090199C, IP120199C and IP150199C — with specifications and input figures from the English I&O manual, doc 800000190(02) (10/2024), section 3.4 Table 2. All five fire down to a 15,000 BTU/h minimum input, carry Canadian CRN 2089.9CL certification, and are CSA/ANSI Z21.13 and CSA 4.9 listed. A sixth code, IP090160C, appears in the manual's model lists but is not on the rinnai.ca sales grid.

The two larger combis, IP175199C and IP199199C (175,000 and 199,000 BTU/h CH input with 199,000 BTU/h DHW), are sold in Canada — product pages carry a 2024 launch and French documentation — but their English I&O manual on rinnai.ca is raster-only, so Boilers.ca documents them as draft models pending review of the scanned text rather than publishing spec figures as final.

The control shows fault codes as plain numbers or letters (021, 110, LC, FFF, SS) with no E prefix, and section 12.11 of the I&O manual prints the full table with combi-only rows such as 021 (too-long DHW continuous operation), 651 (water flow control) and 661 (by-pass) marked. Parameter 08 selects whether the boiler permits DHW priority or simultaneous central-heating and DHW operation, and the same control family's codes must be read from the boiler manuals because Rinnai tankless heaters share short numeric code styles but not code tables.

Highlights

  • Canadian combi codes read CH input / DHW input: IP060160C = 60 MBH CH with 160 MBH DHW
  • Five models to 150 MBH input documented from EN I&O manual 800000190(02) (10/2024)
  • 15,000 BTU/h minimum input across the series; CRN 2089.9CL (Canada)
  • IP175199C and IP199199C sold in Canada but draft-only here (raster I&O manual)
  • Codes print without an E prefix (021, 110, LC, FFF, SS); combi-only rows marked in the manual
  • Parameter 08 sets DHW priority or simultaneous CH + DHW operation

Rinnai Limited Warranty (I&O manual warranty section, Table 56): 12-year heat exchanger, 5-year parts and components, and 1-year reasonable labour for residential applications in the US and Canada, first installation site only; registration within 90 days serves as proof of purchase.

Frequently asked questions

How do I read a model number like IP090199C?

The two numbers are the central-heating input and the domestic hot water input in BTU/h: IP090199C fires up to 90,000 BTU/h for space heating and up to 199,000 BTU/h while making hot water. The trailing C marks the combi line on rinnai.ca.

Why is only part of the combi line documented on Boilers.ca?

The five combis up to 150 MBH input have a full English I&O manual with a readable text layer, so their records are published. The IP175199C and IP199199C manuals are raster-only scans at this time, so those two models are held as drafts until a reviewer verifies the scanned text.

Does the combi run heating and hot water at the same time?

It can. Parameter 08 selects between permitting DHW priority and simultaneous central-heating and DHW operation, and parameter 18 sets the maximum continuous DHW running time in either mode. Installation parameters are set by a licensed professional.
