IBC SL 20-160 G3

The IBC SL 20-160 G3 is the 160 MBH member of the SL Series G3: a wall-hung, 95% AFUE condensing boiler for natural gas or propane, bridging the 115 and 199 models for homes with higher heat loss or hot-water loads.

IBC SL 20-160 G3 in practice

The SL 20-160 G3 fires from 20 to 160 MBH input with a CSA output of up to 147 MBH, which places it between the 115 and the 199 in the SL G3 range. Homes that exceed the 115's output on design days, or that add a large indirect tank with fast recovery, are the usual reasons this size is chosen.

Like the rest of the SL G3 series it is heating-only, with IBC documenting a direct connection to an indirect tank for domestic hot water. The 160 also keeps the 1" water connections and 85-pound-class wall mounting shared with the smaller models, while adding 17 lb over the 115.

Venting differs from the two smaller models: a maximum of 170 equivalent feet in 3" and only 35 feet if 2" is used, against 240/100 feet on the 85 and 115. The vent route therefore matters more on this model, and the equivalent-length calculation should be done early in planning.

Best suited to

  • Larger detached homes whose heat-loss calculation exceeds the 115's output
  • Homes pairing the boiler with a large indirect tank for hot-water recovery
  • Buildings where the installer can run 3" venting within 170 equivalent feet

Frequently asked questions

Can the SL 20-160 G3 be vented in 2" pipe?

IBC allows 2" venting on this model up to 35 equivalent feet per side. Beyond that the installation must use 3", which is allowed to 170 equivalent feet per side.

How heavy is the SL 20-160 G3?

IBC publishes an empty weight of 102 lb (46.3 kg), so the mounting wall and the lifting plan differ from the 85 lb smaller models.

Is the SL 20-160 G3 available in Canada?

Yes. It is listed on IBC's Canadian model page and in the Canadian SL G3 brochure. Whether ROMA supplies it for your project is confirmed at consultation.
